About the DBSG

Background

In December 2002, the Credit Services Association began discussions with interested parties in the marketplace regarding the setting up of a specific group, for companies who buy and sell debts or act as intermediaries in the sale process.

Setting up a separate body was discussed but, as the areas of Debt Sale and Purchase and Debt Collection are so closely allied, the benefit of having one very strong industry body, speaking with one voice, was the obvious choice.

The DBSG was officially launched in June 2004.

Formed for the benefit of companies who buy and/or sell debt membership is open to all interested parties; buyers, sellers or intermediaries.

Objectives

The DBSG has grown in considerable size and at an even more considerable pace since it's launch.  The current membership of the group stands at over 80 members with some of the largest companies in the industry as members.

The principal object and aims of the DBSG are to:

•Be an effective expert voice for the industry
•Define and ensure best practice
•Offer and share expertise and guidance
•Encourage meetings and exchanging of ideas
•Provide clarity on issues and terminology
•Ensure and promote a responsible industry
